Wool Gathering
A Sheep Family Reunion
By Lisa Wheeler
|
This collection of short poems describes members of the sheep family who attend
the "Wool Gathering." Aunt Eweginia knits "ewesful" things. Cousin Hiriam's horns
grow bigger every year and become more difficult to balance, but every year he
lets nieces and nephews decorate them for Christmas. Granny warns of
"Two Wild Cousins," "Hill Billy and Nanny" who live in the hills, have
terrible manners and lead young cousins away. And of course there is
"Lanolin...who has such soft skin she flipped her wool and grew it in."
These are just some of the colorful characters that make up this sheep
family reunion. All of the poems are witty and will appeal to children
and parents alike. The illustrations are full-page color images that
capture the essence of the poems they illustrate.
