The Lacy Knitting of Mary Schiffmann
By Nancy Nehring
|
Concerned that lace knitting would become a lost art, and desiring to promote and
help preserve this art form, Mary Schiffman had collected and catalogued more than
500 lace patterns during her lifetime (1908-1996). She was also one of the founders
of the Lacy Knitters, a national organization dedicated to promoting the
preservation and cataloging of classic vintage knitted lace patterns. Author Nancie
Nehring has compiled and presented an interesting selection of them in this volume
(with patterns and a photo of each finished piece); plus Mary Schiffmann's instructive
notes and insights, together with a biographical record of this remarkable knitter's life.
