Sleeping Bag for Dolls
A MOREHOUSE MERINO ORIGINAL PATTERN
Sleeping Bag Size:
7” wide and about 11” long (for 14” doll)
Yarn:
Sport weight yarn; 2 colors, 220 yards per color
Samples are knit with Morehouse Gator Yarn
Needles:
16” circular needle #4 or #5; set of double-pointed needles #5 or #6 for hood
Gauge:
5 stitches = 1 inch over stockinette stitch pattern with sport weight
Sleeping Bag consists of outer shell in main yarn color and lining in a contrasting color.
Hood is added after completing Sleeping Bag by picking up stitches along top. Sleeping Bag
is knit in the round, starting at bottom edge of outer shell. Inner lining is knit right
onto outer shell.
Outer Shell With main yarn color, cast on 72 stitches. Join and knit until bag measures 11”.
Mark middle of round with marker or piece of different color yarn. Next: *knit to 1 stitch before middle,
slip the next 2 stitches knit-wise (without knitting them) onto needle in right hand, knit next stitch
and pass the 2 slipped stitches over knit stitch; now knit to 1 stitch before end of round and slip the
next 2 stitches as before, knit next stitch and pass the 2 stitches over knit stitch. Knit 1 round.
Repeat from *. You’ll have 64 stitches left. Purl next round. Break off yarn. Start lining with
contrasting yarn color..
Lining Continue with contrasting yarn color and knit to almost same length
as outer shell (about ¼” shorter, so it fits into outer shell more easily). Bind off.
Sew bottom together at both ends and slip lining into outer shell.

Hood Entire hood is knit with yarn double.
Wind remaining ball of yarn in main color into 2 balls. With set of double-pointed needles
and yarn double, pick up stitches at top of Sleeping Bag along purl round. Pick up second half
of stitches plus 2 stitches additional at either end (total of 36 stitches). When picking up
stitches, pick up stitch through loop in first round of lining together with purl stitch
in main yarn color. Distribute stitches over 2 needles.

Knit 16 rows. Next row: knit the middle 2 stitches together, then knit
1 more row. Mark middle stitch with piece of yarn.
*Next row: knit to 1 stitch before middle stitch, slip 2 stitches knit-wise
(same as before) and knit next stitch, pass slipped stitches over knit stitch.
Knit 1 row. Repeat from * until you have 17 stitches left. Bind off using
three-needle bind-off (how? put the 2 needles parallel to each other and knit
stitch on front needle together with stitch on needle in back; knit second
stitch on needle in front together with second stitch on needle in back;
then bind off first stitch. Continue this way, knitting stitches together
from front and back needle and binding off. Pull yarn through last stitch.
