The sample shown was knit with Morehouse Merino 3-Strand Yarn (2 skeins will make 2 hats by reversing colors). Needles: Set of double-pointed #5 or #6 (size to obtain gauge) Gauge: 5 stitches = 1 inch over unstretched rib pattern With contrast color yarn, cast on 88 (80) stitches. Join and work in rib pattern as follows: *knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches; repeat from * to end of round. Work 6 to 8 rounds in rib pattern. Switch to main color yarn and knit 1 round. Continue working in rib pattern (knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches) until hat measures 7” (6”) from cast-on edge. Decreases: work next round as follows: *knit 2 stitches together, purl 2 stitches together; repeat from * to end of round. Work the next 6 rounds in new rib pattern: *knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch; repeat from * to end of round. Next round: knit first stitch, *knit 2 stitches together; repeat from * to last stitch, knit last stitch together with first stitch on next round.
