A MOREHOUSE ORIGINAL PATTERN
Size: Adult
Yarn:
Worsted weight yarn in 2 colors (Hat is knit with
yarn used double), 125 yards per color
Needles:
Set of double-pointed #6
Gauge:
3 stitches = 1 inch using yarn double
Use yarn double (work with both colors simultaneously) and cast on 60 stitches. Join and start pattern:
Rounds 1, 3 & 5: purl
Rounds 2, 4, 6 & 7: knit
The hat should be tightly knit and should feel somewhat stiff.
Repeat these 7 rounds a total of four times — you’ll have worked 28 rounds in pattern.
Work rounds 1 to 5. Work next round as follows: *knit 10 stitches, knit 2 stitches together;
rep from * to end of round. Knit 1 round. Next: *knit 9 stitches, knit 2 stitches together;
rep from * to end of round. Knit 1 round. Next: *knit 8 stitches, knit 2 stitches together;
rep from * to end of round. Knit 1 round. Next: *knit 7 stitches, knit 2 stitches together;
rep from * to end of round. Knit 1 round. Next: *Knit 6 stitches, knit 2 stitches together;
rep from * to end of round. Knit 1 round. Next: *knit 5 stitches, knit 2 stitches together;
rep from * to end of round. Knit 1 round. Next: *knit 4 stitches, knit 2 stitches together;
rep from * to end of round. Knit 1 round. Next: *knit 3 stitches, knit 2 stitches together;
rep from * to end of round. Knit 1 round. Next: *knit 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches together;
rep from * to end of round. Knit 1 round. Next: *knit 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together;
rep from * to end of round. Next: *knit 2 stitches together; rep from * to end of round.
Pull yarn through remaining stitches.
