Morehouse Farm Merino
Bumblebee Vest

A MOREHOUSE MERINO ORIGINAL PATTERN

Sizes:
Child, size 2 or 4

Yarn:
Worsted weight yarn in 2 Bumblebee colors
(approximately 150 yards per color)
Sample is knit with Morehouse Merino
3-Strand in Sunflower and Natural Silver

Needles:
#10 or 10½ (size to obtain gauge)

Gauge:
3½ stitches = 1 inch over garter stitch

Back: with silver color yarn cast on 42 (44) stitches. Knit 2 rows, switch to yellow color yarn and knit 2 rows (don’t break off yarn when you switch colors, just pull up new color loosely at side). Repeat these 4 rows—alternating yarn colors every 2 rows—until piece measures 11” (12”). Knit next row (a right side row). Work next row (wrong side row) as follows: knit 12 stitches, bind off middle 18 (20) stitches loosely and knit remaining 12 stitches.

Front: cast on same number of stitches as for back and knit—alternating colors every 2 rows—to within 12 (14) rows from total number of rows on back piece (for example: if your total number of rows on back is 80—work 66 rows). Knit next row (right side). Work next row (wrong side) as follows: knit 18 (19) stitches, bind off middle 6 stitches, then knit remaining 18 (19) stitches. Continue working on left front. *Knit next row (right side) to last 2 stitches, knit those 2 stitches together. Knit next row. Repeat from * until you have 12 stitches left. Bind off together with shoulder from back piece using three-needle bind-off (How? Put front and back piece parallel to each other—wrong side facing out—and bind off together. Knit the first stitch on needle closest to you together with first stitch on needle in back, then knit second stitch on needle closest to you together with second one on needle in back, then bind off regularly by lifting first stitch over second one. Continue this way, knitting two stitches together from front and back needle, then binding off.) Repeat for right front.

Finishing: sew sides together to within 4½” (5”) from shoulder—leaving those 4½” (5”) for armhole opening.
