Baby Booties

A MOREHOUSE ORIGINAL PATTERN

Sizes:
Newborn to about 6 months

Yarn:
Sport weight yarn;
Sample shown is knit with
Morehouse Merino 2-Ply Yarn

Needles:
#4 or #5

Gauge:
5 stitches = 1 inch over Irish Moss Stitch pattern

Pattern:
Rows 1 & 2 *knit 1, purl 1; rep from*
Rows 3 & 4 knit 1, *knit 1, purl 1;
rep from * to last stitch, knit last stitch
Repeat these 4 rows

Cast on 40 stitches and work 18 rows in pattern.
Next row: knit 24 stitches, knit 2 together; turn
(you’ll be working on middle 10 stitches) and slip first stitch with yarn in front, purl 8, purl 2 together; turn and *slip first stitch with yarn in back, knit 8, knit 2 together; turn and slip first stitch with yarn in front, purl 8, purl 2 together; and turn. Repeat from * three more times, then knit to end of row — you now have a total of 30 stitches left.

Next row: knit first stitch, purl 1, yarn over (abbreviated: yo), purl 2 together, purl 1, yo, purl 2 together, purl 1, yo, purl 2 together, purl 11, and again: yo, purl 2 together, purl 1, yo, purl 2 together, purl 1, yo, purl 2 together, and knit last stitch (this last row created the little eyelets to thread ribbon through). Now work 16 rows in knit 1 purl 1 rib pattern, then bind off loosely.
Make second bootie.

Sew together: bottom of sole and back of bootie. Cut two ribbons 16” long each and thread through eyelet row or crochet 2 pieces each 16” long for ties.
