Beaudelaire Scarf

A MOREHOUSE MERINO ORIGINAL PATTERN

Size: about 9” wide & 66” long

Yarn:
Sport weight yarn in 2 colors
(220 yards of each color).
The sample shown is knit using 2 skeins of
Morehouse Merino 2-Strand— 1 each
of black (color A) and white (color B).

Needles:
#6 or #7 (gauge is not crucial, but the scarf
looks better and feels softer if knit loosely)

With color A, cast on 31 stitches and
purl first row; then start with pattern.

Pattern:
Row 2: slip first stitch, *knit 1, knit 1 below
(see illustration); rep from * to last 2 stitches, knit 2. Row 3: slip first stitch, *purl below, purl 1; rep from * to last 2 stitches, purl next stitch below and knit last stitch. Switch to color B and repeat rows 2 & 3. Switch back to color A and repeat rows 2 & 3 (don’t break off yarn when you switch colors, just pull up new yarn color loosely at side of scarf).

Knit into stitch below

Work in pattern until you have just enough yarn to bind off loosely (finish with rows 2 & 3 in color A, then bind off with color A).

Finishing: soak scarf in warm water for several minutes. Squeeze out as much water as possible and lay flat to dry—stretching scarf final size.
